12th June 2014
Friends Evening Event from 7pm ....
Salt and the Great War: Violet’s Story ....
Elizabeth Morris, a storyteller and actor presents a tale from the viewpoint of her great-grandmother, Violet Hamlett, who was married to a Winsford salt baron.
She experienced at first hand the great upheaval in society as a result of WW1: the changing role of women and coming to terms with loss on a scale never before imagined.
The story is set in Winsford’s ‘Dark Town’ where its greatest commodities would prove essential to the war effort.
7 p.m. for 7:30 p.m. start.
