Vale Royal Abbey: A Failed Enterprise

This medieval abbey, founded in 1270, later became a country residence and is now a golf club.
Intended to be the finest abbey ever built, financial difficulties, gross mismanagement and poor internal discipline created a focus for community discord.
Tony Bostock will tell the abbey’s story from its establishment until its dissolution in 1538.
